I find iMessage to be vastly superior to texting on AT&T's pathetic excuse for a network, but on more than one occasion it's completely vaporized my texts.

Has anyone else had a problem with iMessage's "robustness"?

What does 'vaporizing texts' mean? It erases previous sms conversations?

I've never had any issues with iMessage as long as data is working fine.

Sorry... that wasn't as clear as it should have been.

I send a message. I receive the Delivered confirmation. The person I'm texting gets nothing.

I stopped using iMessage after the first day for this reason. Dunno if it's any better now, but I'm not interested in being a beta tester for iMessage.

Plus, I want my messages linked to a phone number, not an email address.

BTW, there is an iMessage security flaw that allows iMessages to be delivered to stolen iPhones.

Could he have at one time set it up to receive iMessages to his iTunes email address or some other one and since removed that, or has he changed phone numbers since he got that iPhone?

Nope. No settings were changed. It happened overnight. I was texted, I sent a few responses, the next morning I get a "hello?" text.

Later that day we compared iPhones. She just didn't get about a half dozen texts.

Maybe turning off iMessage for a few minutes on her phone and turning it back on would re-register it. Does she get iMessages from anyone else?

See, that's the problem. You don't know if it's gonna work or not.

Mind you, SMS ain't perfect either, but at least it seems to work fine on this continent. Overseas SMS is a different story though.

The security issue with iMessage should be a huge PR disaster for Apple. I can't understand why it hasn't been. Not as sexy as "asian child slaves" I guess.

This appears to be an isolated problem for one person. It may be part of a larger problem, but it has a known indicator -- iMessages don't arrive, so one knows it isn't working. In all other iMessage users I've interacted with, delivered means delivered and read is read.

This is a part of a larger problem. This has been a known issue for months - messages listed as "Delivered" aren't actually delivered.

etc.

To be honest, I'm not very surprised, given Apple's terrible track record with online services (outside of iTunes that is).

Yeah, I didn't know about it until recently either, because the press doesn't seem to have picked up on it.

Apple does seem to have big problems with rigorous testing, lately.

No way should Apple be releasing beta versions of anything whatsoever.
