G4 upgrades, level 2 cache ... on?

I've a G4 in a 9600. It takes YDL 2.3 very nicely, and it runs pretty snappily.
However, in BootX, you can't activate the L2 cache because it is "not a G3,"--to quote the cache grabber utility.
Does anyone know how to activate the Level 2 cache on a G4 upgraded Oldword Mac?
