Hi folks,

I am a newbie struggling with iMac. I have an iMac which is running Mac OS 10.2, Mac OS 10.1.5, 9.x.

I have a ubuntu 5.10 live CD.

I would like to see how ubuntu looks on my iMac.
But I am confused as to how to start up ubuntu while booting.
There's this CD slot to insert. But I'm unable to figure out how to boot from CD.
There's an option to select an OS to boot from OS 10. The only options provided are one of 10.2, 10.1.5, 9.x etc.

Can someone point me in the correct direction?

I would be very much thankful to you all guys.

I would bet on holding 'C' right after you power it up, with the CD in the drive. That's how it works on my Mini and iBook.

You can also try holding Option right after you power it up -- you'll get a nice boot menu thing.

Thank you very much guys for the help.

I held the Option key, and a boot menu was presented to me.
I booted the ubuntu breezy live CD.

I was hoping to see linux on iMac. ubuntu initialized everything, but alas the X-Server config failed and linux didn't start.

Thanks again.

rgds,

We have a UNIX forum for these types of questions. This is in no way an iMac-specific topic.
