Hi,
I am new to MAC world and just got my macbook pro yesterday . I was reading this forum for almost a month now...and was really amazed with the topics...I like to understand the MAC OS and like to mack use of the system to the full extent.
Let me know are there any features that you would think that a new user might not be aware ???
Thanks.

My first suggestion would be to not assume that it works like Windows -- expecting it to work exactly like Windows will leave you disappointed. If you can't find what you want, the feature is often either an entirely unnecessary step, or it's just done in a different way. (Macs rely extremely heavily on drag-and-drop.)

If you really want Word/Excel, then yes, you'll have to buy the Mac OS X version of MS Office. However, if you only need compatibility with those file types, there are several open source or freeware applications that will do the job admirably.

You want NeoOffice, which is a port of OpenOffice to run under MacOS X (without X Window)

If you want to discuss software, do it in the Applications forum, please. The topic of `good' or `free' applications is covered there in dedicated threads, some of them are even stickies.
