so, a week or so on, how is Boot Camp treating everybody? I'm pretty pleased with the option, mainly for playing a few game demos.

useful software:
* apple mouse utility
* remapkey.exe

Annoying issues we expect Apple will resolve:
* sound from speakers when headphone is plugged into MBP
* No volume key support

Stuff it'd be nice to see, but don't expect soon:
* NTFS write
*>2 partitions support

So far, it's working just fine for me. I've just been using it for games, mostly, although I have installed things like firefox and thunderbird for use when I am booted into Windows and want to check my email or a web site quickly. No problems to report.

I did have one question. I am using a Macally keyboard with my iMac and while it has an eject key on it, it needs special driver software to use it even in OS X, so it should go without saying that it is not functional in Windows. Does anyone know of a taskbar item that will eject the DVD-R drive? At the moment, I am going to "My Computer' and right clicking on the DVD drive to eject it, but this is a little annoying.

Here's a question: if you can use Boot Camp to partition the HFS+ journaled into HFS+ and free space for NTFS, what is to say that you can't add more partitions, ala partition magic from Win?

The problem as I see it would be writing the partition table: Apple's partition map and MS' have traditionally rejected each other as incompatible, and I don't think partition magic yet knows the magic that Apple has done to reconcile the two.

As for a boot loader, the way it could work would be to not load a traditional boot loader- let boot camp take care of that, and THEN use boot.ini in Windows to select further additional OS choices.

This will get less complex as more operating systems come to address EFI.

lists about 5, and I am familiar with none.

I don't have the latest version of PartitionMagic, but the previous one (v7..or is it v8?) supports Windows and Linux partitions but not HFS+ partitions. I'd be worried that if it didn't actively support HFS+, it could (to use a technical term) goober up the HFS+ partition. To my knowledge, none of the other partitioning packages for Windows support HFS+. I'll have to research this in my massive free time (has anyone heard the term "finals are coming?"). (Ooo, I sound snapish, don't I. Sorry.)

Anyway, I'll check Symantec's site for PM to see what they say about the current version.

Later... The current version of PM is 8, and it does NOT support HFS+. That does not mean it will hurt an HFS+ partition, but I'm kinda glad I don't yet have an Intel Mac to try it out with...

Any user reports of experience with this will be gratefully (and sympathetically ) received.
