hi guys have read a few posts in the last 4 or 5 hours regarding multi OS's on Mac machines, In short can i install XP pro with SP2 on a G4 ibook, it aint a intel version... Its processor is a powermac if that sounds right...

I have a copy of bootcamp, as well as a copy of virtual pc 7, and zp pro of course, but which method is best as I have read this evening that it is possible to kill the G4 by doing this??

Sorry if this has been posted b4 but i Have searched for windows, multi os installs, xp and tiger on same ibook, bootcamp, and virtual pc, And came up with heaps of info on how to, but none stating on whats best for certain ibooks...

I should say also, the ibook is running the latest tiger software. . . Its just the Lappy is the missuses and she uses it at uni, and has trouble relating stuff from there PCs to here lappy, I think she likes driving XP better than driving the Mac, If this makes any sense...

Thanxs heaps in advance, Im sure some1 here can steer me in the right direction...

Yes and NO. You CANNOT install XP natively on any PowerPC processor-based Mac, though you CAN under VPC. BootCamp will NOT work on a G4.

There are a number of other OSs around that work with PPC machines, such as a few flavors of Linux. They are suited for dual boot on your iBook.

VirtualPC is fairly easy to install and use, but it isn't meant to be a complete replacement operating system. It works through an emulation layer, so it doesn't have native access to the laptop's hardware, which means that some programs will run very slowly. I think a better (and free) investment of your time would just be to work on learning how to better use the Mac OS to mimick what you want to do in Windows. If you have any specific questions about that, I'm sure there are people here who can help you. There are also several how-to books on the Mac OS out there that are geared towards people switching from Windows.
