As the title suggests, Before I go and kill it (the G4 that is) What it the reliablest process of doing this?? Have the Install Disks(tiger x DVD, Microsoft Virtual PC ver7,and windows XP Pro) but no documentation, have searched for a tutorial on this forum with no luck..

I wanna run XP Pro with service Pack 2 on the G4, And the Macs Running the latest Tiger X OS.

Can some1 who has done this already steeer me in the right direction, or even post a link to somewhere where there is a tutorial on the subject, have searched here and found heaps of infos on problems and performance issues, and compatibility probs, but no real step by step guides
I may be a simple question, but As u might see I am a total newbie in the Apple feild, and from what Ive read already, This can be simple but it also can be dangerous....

Just to prove how green I am to this area, I already had bootcamp on the G4 and was about to install Xp that way, until a friend mentioned this helpful site...AND i read that this only works with Intel based Apples... Lucky I read b4 trying this process..

I would hate to wreck the ibook as it seems a great little machine, Compared to my IBM T41, and my Compaq Pressario v2000....

Thanxs heaps guys, in advance, Sorry to trouble u all with such a simple but complex issue for a newbie!!!

Thanx again guys...... Streeter

Well maybe its not so simple, Or maybe u guys dont appreciate being asked such a simple question from some1 who really doesnt know where to start and is worried about breaking the apple lappy altogether.... Maybe yet again, u guys want me 2 post that i infact have stuffed it up and it dont work so yas can sit back and have a laugh... Dont know, but Im starting 2 think ive wasted my time and u guys time in even asking such a simple question.... I did thou also think this was meant to be one of the best forums to help newbies like myself with problems all u guys face many times from day to day being apple / mac users.....

Thanx for nothing guys

Dude, it's been 10 hours since you posted.

Just do it. Thanks to a nifty piece of software called an installer the process isn't all that hard. Then set the options for Virtual PC. If anything, you'll mess up VPC, not your iBook.

Although, if the VPC installer asks for your password, start running. iBook G4s have been known to explode when this happens.

Posting again so soon is Bad Form®. And not taking some initiative and asking for help before you've done any homework (like reading the files that come with VPC or looking for general help installing XP on the Internet) is Very Bad Form™.

Just do some homework and if (ok maybe even when) things get complicated tell us what's working and what's not and we'll help.

Its not rocket science, just pop the install disk in the drive, double click on the installer and sit back and enjoy.

Didn't you get a manual when you bought VPC? Strange...

Thank u guys, Its just my lack of patience that was rattling the cage...

When I bought VPC ver7 of ebay it did not come with anything but the original disks, I Have had limited experience with VPC,VNC,VMware and software much the same so I didnt know wether there were irraversible effects, if i did just install....

Sorry for lack of patience guys, I am usually alot friendlier and dont mind waiting, but I have also had the missus in my ear to get it done bcoz of her exams coming up, when she starts stressing, it makes life unbearable for me to be in the same house hold as her, thus the little rush along, And I am PC orientated, done a course in level III network administration, as well as a Hardware course, But thats all for tradional pcs, not macs, I have dibbled with linux, ubuntu, knoppis and the likes, but when it comes to the G4 Lappy which did cost abit coz it was supposedly brand new I didnt want 2 go ahead and interfere with it at all until I had some expert advise....

Thanx heaps fellas and I will let yas know how I go..............

I understand your anxiety. My finals are in about two weeks.

Look at Microsoft's VPC Support pages for probably more help than you could possibly need (or want!) with the product.

Final bit of computer advice: as long as you have a recent backup, it's pretty darn hard to screw up a Mac by trying to load software.
