I was bored so I installed XP on my iMac last night. It's interesting and fun to play around with and all (although no replacement for OS X, imo). So far it's been stable enough (minus when it decided not to recognize any mouse/keyboard after the first time I installed it) but I've run into one annoying problem: The built-in speakers are always on, even if I have headphones or other speakers plugged into the machine.

The weird part is that it'll actually pump audio to whatever I have plugged into the audio out port (although it seems to require me to tell it that there's a set of phones plugged in via the control panel before it's really sure about things) all while still playing audio out of the built-in speakers. Has anyone run into this? I feel dumb going to a random Windows-related forum and asking since I'm guessing it has something to do with either the drivers Apple provided or the iMac itself, but I'm curious to find out if anyone else has this problem since I don't believe I've seen it mentioned before.

Yes, this is a limitation that is actually listed on Apple's website somewhere -the drivers for the audio in XP will not mute internal speakers even with externals plugged in
