Hi there. I just started a new internship where I'm forced to use a PC, but I can still bring my trusty 17" with me. However, I still have to do a lot of work on the PC.

The only burning app they have on it is Roxio's Easy CD creator. And, I tried putting CD-RW in my 1.33 GHZ 17" Powerbook and it wouldn't read them at all. I went to look at the settings, and there is no Mac/PC hybrid option. Is there a small app for Windows somewhere out there that can burn CD-Rs and RWs that are Mac and PC compatible?

I would just network my laptop to the PC, but I already tried and there's so many firewalls and crap that it's pratically impossible.

And also, does anyone know if I re-format my iPod on a Windows machine if it will still be compatible with my Mac when I plug it in? I could just transfer files that way if that works, but I didn't want to format my iPod and then not have it work with my Mac.

Thanks,
Omek

With Roxio you may have inadvertently used their DirectCD program.

Rather than trying to hunt down some 3rd party utility, just use the CD burning that's integrated in Windows. Put a blank in, drag and drop you files to the CD drive in My Computer, and when you're done hit "burn these files to disk" (or something similar).

As mduell says, use what's in Windows. It's free, and though it's a little slower than Roxio (at least to me) it does work.

thanks guys! I'm fairly new to navigating through XP, so I didn't know it had such a feature. Do you guys know anything about formating an iPod on a PC? Will it still be backward compatible with a Mac?

If you format your iPod for Windows, you can sync it with either a Mac or a Windows computer. The "format" only addresses which platform (Mac or Windows) you MUST use to install updates for the iPod.
