Is anyone trying anything in this field? I think it would be a bit nicer than rebooting everytime I want to compile something, then reboot again to feel at home.

I think I understood you correctly;

I just did a test, whereby I booted into windows, then hibernated it. I then turned the machine back on, and left it, and it booted into OS X. Fine.

Then I restarted again, preparing to boot into Windows as I normally would. The de-hibernation status thingy came up, and in next to no time I was back into Windows.

I had never thought of this before, and it certianly saves a lot of time when booting/rebooting. Its a shame theres no way to 'tell' OS X to hibernate - I know theres the safe sleep feature, but that solution wouldn't work, as it only functions when power is lost during sleep.

Yes, you understood correctly

I'd really like to dual boot this way, so that I don't have to close all my documents every time.

This blogger explains how Safe Sleep (aka Hibernate) is enabled in old Macs

This blogger talks about how this would be nice too.
