I downloaded a file from a friend called windxpsp2.nrg, and he told me to burn it to a CD as an ISO Image (or something), is that right?
If so, can anyone tell me how to burn an
ISO image CD so that he could boot windows onto a Mac.
Is an ISO image the thing i need to burn it as?
thanks for all your help

An ISO is an image of a disc such as a CD or DVD. Think of it like a photo of the contents of a disc, but instead of being a JPG or GIF, it's an ISO. It allows you to make a perfect copy of the disc without actually having to have the original disc. A .nrg is a Nero image file, which is a special type of ISO that is proprietary to Nero (afaik). I believe that Toast for OS X can burn it to disc. btw, if you're going to be installing Windows XP and are only using your friend's CD, you will need to buy a copy of Windows XP in order to put the license code in - XP only allows one key per computer (it registers it online in a computer database), otherwise it expires in 30 days.

Nero will burn an ISO image-it's just not obvious. Here are some instructions for how to do it-it really is simple. According to this MacAddict thread, Toast will, and Roxio's Easy Media Creator (formerly Eash CD creator) certainly will.
Remember, "ISO" stands for "International Standards Organization." Apple and apple apps tend to be good about complying with standards.

Yeah but the file the OP said he had was named "windxpsp2.nrg". .nrg is basically the same thing as an ISO, but it's in Nero format, that's all. Nero can certainly burn ISOs, but the OP's file is an .nrg.

Maybe just saying "USE NERO" is too plain. I had thought that this was settled in the first response-it's a Nero format so use Nero. And it doesn't matter what platform you use to burn the CD, it'll still be the same image that gets burned, no matter what image format you use. So USE NERO to burn the ".nrg" image.
The rest of my response was about YOUR response with its ambiguous statements about what programs can burn ISO images-or at least that's how I read it.
Now for a bit of analysis. That Nero image would probably be an image of an installation disc. Which means that it's a pirate copy, right? To not be a pirate copy you'd need to have the original disc, not just an image a friend gave you. Making a backup copy of your own XP installation CD would not be pirating, as long as you controlled the original and the copy properly. So I've had to come out and express the thought I had from the begining-that the OP is trying to burn a pirate copy of a copyrighted piece of software. And the MacNN Forums CANNOT support or condone such actions.
There are simple and easy paths for producing a complete XP with SP2 installation disc when you have only the basic XP disc to start with. They're detailed in earlier posts and the sticky thread about slipstreaming. THAT we WILL support, but not piracy.
