HI, ive read that many people had some trouble installing bootcamp. As many others, i cant install it because the "update firmware" message appears. I downloaded what i think its the update i needed but i cant run it. I says that theres no program to open that file. Its a common *.pkg file so i dont know whats happening.

Cant someone help me?

Thanks,
fuser

I'm having similar problems. I have a MacBook Pro, I install Boot Camp, it says I need the firmware update. I download the latest update, go to install it and it says my firmware is up to date ??? So, I can't get past the "update firmware" message from Boot Camp.

Any ideas?

I found the answer on this forum... I just needed to search a bit deeper. I was installing an older firmware package. I needed to install the following :

http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...update101.html

After installing that, everything is installing ok.

It should work fine for you. Please explain exactly what you've done to run the update-maybe there's a step you've missed or done incorrectly...

hi im actually on my friend's macnn account..but i have a 20" imac intel core duo and I'm having the same problems as above...

I want to install bootcamp so once i run the application it says i need to update my computer's firmware. so i go to the apple site and download the ONLY and latest imac smc firmware which came out on 5/16/2006. once i try to install that, it says that "this computer does not need this update" So after reading more faq stuff i go into my app/utilities folder and run intel smc firmware updater and it says that my firmware is up-to-date 1.0. so i apparently have the latest firmware but bootcamp says i dont.....HELP

thanks

The SMC firmware is NOT what you need. You need this. That's the issue, really; this firmware update installs legacy BIOS support needed for you to boot the XP install disc. With the linked firmware, you should be fine.

Is there anything like that for the MacBook Pro? I'm having a similar issue, but instead of firmware being the issue - I'm told I need to update my system software and so far anything I've tried to update hasn't worked... Also, I'm brand new to MACs...so if i'm screwing something up, please tell me how to fix it Thanks!

I can't find a listing for the specific, Boot Camp-required firmware for either the MacBook or MacBook Pro. I'm going to tack a post of links to the firmware required by the Mini and iMac. If anyone can find the place to download firmware for the laptops (or tell me that it's not required and fix batman's problem) please do!

I just received my brand new black MacBook (and have already installled the new SMC Firmware Update) and installed Boot Camp Assistant. However, when I try to launch the Assistant, I get this message:

Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used.

Your startup disk is not supported.
(no mention about firmware)

Any ideas as to what's wrong?
