ok, this is my first post....completely new to macs
I installed xp and then started the install on the mac driver list. the problem is when i do this after it restarts or in the middle my keyboard and mouse and everything except the power button stop working and the only way to get it to move again is by completely reinstalling windows? is there a way 2 fix this so i have the right drivers but my keyboard and mouse still work? im getting so frustruated. thanks
also is parallels or boot camp best for running xp. I am using xp for audio apps that i cant get on the osx right now

Welcome! I'm sorry but I can't answer your first question-someone will no doubt chime in soon with something to at least address this problem.
As for the second question, that's not quite the same thing as asking whether Macs or PCs are "better," but it's close. Parallels has some strengths that Boot Camp lacks (switching between the two OSs being the chief one) while Boot Camp beats Parallels hands down in handling hardware (driver issues notwithstanding). So the official answer to question #2 is "it depends." Which audio apps are you wanting to use? I can't imagine a lack of audio apps on OS X, unless you "need" an Intel-native app that isn't universal yet.

You need to have am external USB keyboard and mouse.

No, that's not right. One thing Boot Camp is supposed to do is make it so a Mac can run Windows, including installing Windows. That means that the MacBook's keyboard should still work.
While an external keyboard might be useful, I don't think that's the answer.

Thats correct, an external USB Keyboard and Mouse are needed if you are on lets say an iMac because it uses bluetooth which after xp installation won't work until the mac drivers are installed. But on the MBP, all should be good.

What? iMacs use USB keyboards, just like all Mac desktop computers. And if I'm not mistaken, the built-in keyboard in an Intel Mac laptop should look just like a USB keyboard to Boot Camp.
Am I missing something here? I have not seen tons of posts about needing external keyboards for Boot Camp installations before...

I'm having this exact same problem and I don't know what to do anymore. I found this forum by searching through google for answers. I get the same problem. I install XP, run the mac drivers cd, while its installing it gets to the point where it "registers" things, an error comes up saying the drivers do not pass the windows logo test, an icon appears in the sys tray, then the mouse and keyboard freeze up. It is not an issue of needing a keyboard and mouse, because I have tried using the usb mouse for my pc.

Drivers do not need to have passed Windows Logo testing-this is one of Microsoft's ways to make more money from driver writers. LOTS of drivers, even from Microsoft, don't pass that testing because they never get submitted. Usually when you see a windows about this, you get the option to install anyway-Click YES and things should be fine. Did you have that option?

I seem to be having a very similar problem with a MacBook 13". I installed Windows XP and loaded the Macintosh drivers CD, which froze during registration, after posting the error about the windows logo test. Neither mouse nor keyboard (nor trackpad) function in Windows XP. I have tried ejecting and re-inserting the driver CD before, during, and after rebooting in XP, as well as using a USB mouse - no response whatsoever.
Unless someone has a ready solution (from the OS X side, perhaps?), it looks like I'll have to remove the partition and re-install Windows. Ugh.
