Sorry if this has been asked already:

Can I run Parallels and Boot Camp on my MBP using the same XP key? I will primarily be using boot camp I think, but can see where Parallels will have application as well. I know the two do not share the same windows install, my question is just whether or not I can use the same copy of XP for both instances on the same machine.

Yes.

You just have to call and explain what's going on. Given that the license is for one computer and it's impossible for you to use Parallels and Boot Camp on the same machine simultaneously, they shouldn't give you too much trouble as long as you explain to them what you're trying to do.
