I just installed the winXP with Boot Camp tonite on my father's 17" intel imac (early 2006) with 1.5 gb RAM. Sucessfully, this time That's whole another story.

Anyway, my point being, the installation went well. However, the Macintosh Drivers didn't work out so well. At first, the installer could not find the usbehci.sys, so I googled and found it, burned to a cd, then installed that. Got that working. But then after the ATI graphic driver was attempting to install, then I got the msg that says it didn't pass the Windows Logo Testing, then after that passed, then all of sudden i get that "Error: -1603, fatal error during installation. Consult Windows Installer Help (msi.chm) or MSDN for more information."

Anybody had this experience?

1603 is a generic error message about something that the installer couldn't undo or redo. I think that there's probably something odd with your driver CD (it can happen) or a glitch in your XP installation.

Either way, the best shot is probably to reformat the Windows partition and reinstall Windows, then try again. As fast as the Intel Macs are, that shouldn't take long... If it happens again, repeat, but rebuild the driver CD before you try it again.

Thanks. I gave up. The important thing is that the mouse, keyboard and the printer works. My father only wanted one image program meant for model trains and that works. And I have forbidden him to surf on the net with XP so that's not a problem.

But if dad wants to do more, I ll do format & reinstall. I'll keep that in mind.

In Windows Explorer, right-click on My Computer and select Properties.

On the General tab, under System, it should say:

Microsoft Windows XP
Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

Ah it just says Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002...
So that means it isn't SP2.

Correct.

And I was never able to get SP2 to install on Windows in BootCamp, so you'll need to slipstream it in.

Well I have vista build 5840 and I'm experiencing the same problem. Any idea what do to for that? The drivers had no problems installing when I used to have XP... but I screwed up that installation so I had to wipe it and I just put vista on instead. I suppose had I upgraded to vista from the existing XP installation the drivers would have been still there. Someone else had mentioned trying to isolate the drivers from the driver CD, but they are all combined into an exe file, and I don't suppose there'll be any getting them out of there. I miss my iSight and the microphone....
I hope someone cracks Vista before the June expiration date... cause I'm addicted :)
