When I run Windows apps under DarWINE, I get this error message:
Wine cannot find the FreeType font library. To enable Wine to
use TrueType fonts please install a version of FreeType greater than
or equal to 2.0.5.
Is there any way to get this library other than compiling it?
At www.freetype.org, there is no information about what the end product is supposed to be called. What is the formal name of this library?
What is this library supposed to do?

I got Darwinports and installed the Freetype through that, but X11 is still complaining about not finding the font library. Now what?

It seems that this thread has been put to sleep for awhile. I just wanted to chime in and say that I to have had the same problem as stated above and would really, really appreciate any light that anyone can shine on this issue. Thanks in advance.

symbolically link the freetype libs into /usr/lib

example (my freetype is installed in /opt/local by DarwinPorts):

cd /usr/lib
sudo ln -s /opt/local/lib/libfree* .
