Hi,

I've just had a quick search of the forums and can't find anything about it so far - Just wondering of you people with macbooks, can you share your folders between OSX and Windows? I'm interested because of transfering music accross. I've heard that you need separate partitions for each of the OS's but from my understanding - that means you may not be able to share files and folders?

Cheers,

Sam

OSX can read, but not write, NTFS, the prefered format for Windows partitions.

Windows cannot read or write HFS+, the prefered format for OSX partitions, natively, but can both read and write HFS+ with low-cost third-party software.

Both OSs can read and write FAT32, but that means creating a third partition either on your internal disk (not supported by BootCamp) or using an external disk. FAT32 is limited to a maximum filesize of 4GB, so you can't put any large movies on it. Also FAT32 performance in OSX is quite slow.

You didn't find anything because you didn't look in the Alternative Operating Systems forum-where this subject has been beaten to death. ANYTHING having to do with any operating system other than OS X on a Mac goes there. Dual boot means "alternative OS."

By the way, Welcome to the MacNN Forums! Please watch the posting rules next time, ok?

The FAT32 specification itself allows for volumes up to 2TB, but ScanDisk's limit is a hair under 128GB, so that's, practically speaking, the limit.
