I installed vista on a 16 gb partition. it works great. problem is i am not being given an option to boot to the mac. i checked the 16 gb partition to make sure i didnt accidently format the entire hd, and it is indeed on the 16 gb partition. obviously i did something wrong. how do i correct it, and i am holding my breath hoping i dont have to do a complete reinstallation.

With all the restarts the Windows installer does, the Bootcamp set up App sets the start up disk to the Windows partition, the XP drivers disk has a Windows version of the Apple startup disk control panel (although I don't know if this works in Vista) for you to set the default back to OSX.
When you are in OSX just use the startup disk control panel screen, to set the default back to OSX.

I think all the new Intel Macs by default boot whatever operating system you booted last.
