I'm d/l'ing BootCamp now, but I'm a little hesitant about contaminating my brand new iMac w/ Windows, I really have no reason to install windows outside of curiosity, lol.

How is the stability of BootCamp and XP(haha) and is there any effect on OSX?

Should I maybe just hold off until 10.5 comes out?

Thanks!

It should be a harmless endeavor, assuming you don't accidentally install Windows over your OS X partition.

As for stability, Boot Camp is fine (all it does is partition your disk for you), and XP is nearly problem-free with the latest drivers. Your iMac's internal iSight will be fully supported, and you should have no problems. I only BSODed once through Boot Camp, and it was using the original 1.0 drivers.

It's interesting, however, to note how many Mac users are under the misconception that XP is somehow unstable. I used it as my primary OS for a good 3 years, both pre- and post-SP2, and never had a single system crash. A few lock-ups, of course, but the same can be said about OS X.

Any ramblings are entirely my own, and do not represent those of my employers, coworkers, friends, or species

Just make sure you install XP methodically. And don't do anything else while the drivers from the BootCamp driver CD are being installed. I was playing solitaire during the driver installation, and somehow this lead to my graphics drivers not getting installed properly which lead to a crash and reboot each time Windows tried to load.

Also, keep in mind that you can reclaim the space occupied by XP just by using the Bootcamp Assistant if you decide you don't want XP anymore.

I guess I sorta forgot about this thread, enjoying the new machine too much, lol.

I'm still debating, I have a seperate PC anyway, so it's not critical, but if I need it, I need it, and I'll likely go through with it. Thanks guys!
