I ran the Vista Upgrade utility and it said that the X1600 ATI card in my MBP (running in XPx with Bootcamp at the time) won't support the Aero Glass interface. It's the 256MB card so I have trouble believing it wouldn't.
Is this just a driver issue with Apple's drivers versus an ATI driver?
I haven't tried installing Vista yet but I wanted to make sure it'd do it before I did .

Definately a bug; probably because the X1600 in the MBP is substantially underclocked and doesn't use the standard ATi Catalyst driver.
Heck, even my X300 runs Aero Glass.

I ran the Vista upgrade advisor utility shortly after it first came out, and it told me nothing about the PC I was running it on that I didn't already know: I needed a better video card. But it also hosed XP on that machine and if it hadn't been for XP's rollback feature, I'd have had to reinstall... So take anything you get from that utility with a BIG grain of salt-if it can't run on a PC without doing damage, I don't really trust it.

The MBP will not run Aero. I have Vista installed in Parallels and I get no option to use the Aero interface. Stupid....

That's because Parallels doesn't support 3D hardware acceleration. It's the same reason you can't just run Doom 3/HL2 within Parallels.

If my MacBook runs Aero fine, your MBP should definitely run it. I've had no problems with Aero so far.

But not within Parallels like he is doing.

Parallels doesn't support any 3D acceleration. You will get Aero when running natively.

In Bootcamp, your MBP will definitely support Aero Glass (I've seen it with my own eyes on a MBP before, not to mention on my own MacBook). However, the current incarnation of Parallels will NOT support Aero, as it's unable to give Vista direct access to the video card, which is necessary for Aero.
