I've just installed Windows XP on a new Mac mini 1.66GHz, and I was very impressed with how it went - the driver CD worked fine and all .
But it seems that downloads are unreliable. Some windows updates fail to install first time around, and the same goes for office updates. I downloaded the live messenger installer and it refused to run, saying the download was corrupted. Adobe download manager said the download of adobe reader 7.0.8 was corrupt. iTunes would not install because "the file Quicktime.cab, which is required by the installer, is corrupt" - at least Apple gave a reason.
I can't see any mention of such things around here - any ideas? Maybe I shouldn't be trying to download things with IE7!

Okay so downloading the QuickTime installer from VersionTracker allowed me to install QuickTime and the SoftwareUpdate app, but said iTunes was corrupt. Then downloading from SoftwareUpdate it said the package had an invalid signature and had been removed ... clearly they have a different definition of removed from mine, as it had already downloaded the package when it told me that.... Okay, I'm going to bed.
Edit: Ooh 500th post ... rather a disappointment .

Yes I tend to agree. I managed to get iTunes 7.0.1 installed, and adobe reader managed fine the second time around. But now weird things are happening on the OS X side - the trash doesn't empty properly most of the time and emailing a PDF to a windows user just failed - corrupted. I'm gonna go out on a limb and blame the preinstalled Tiger ... I should have gone from my bought version. Here's waiting for Leopard .

Personally, i'd use common sense and blame your RAM.

Hmmm interesting, it had not even occurred to me. Interestingly enough (or not) I had to go back the day after I got the machine as they had installed a 512MB and a 256MB rather than the 2x512s I had paid for.
Anyway, I'll keep tabs on this - thanks for the thought.
