MacBook Pro & Bootcamp - keyboard not working

Hello guys,
just bought a new macbook pro and tried getting bootcamp up and running. After it boots the windows xp cd, however, my laptop keyboard does not respond. then, I went out and bought a cheap logitech USB keyboard, which works fine unter mac os x, but doesn't let me type at the windows installation.
could anyone give me some guidelines on what I could try next? I'd really like to get bootcamp running.
I'm using the newest version of bootcamp.

do unplug all external USB devices when installing the Macintosh Drivers
i suggest you go through the winxp installation process again

When I was installing XP on my Macbook the laptop keyboard wouldn't work because I had an Apple Mighty Mouse plugged in. I unplugged the mouse and used the trackpad and the install went fine. After installation I plugged the mouse back in and it worked. Go figure.

the xp cd boots up to the blue install screen, and nothing. what really tips me off to it is that the num lock and caps lock buttons don't respond. i don't have anything plugged in.
did anyone find anything out?

Absolutely certain this is an install disc that includes SP2? It's reallly important. And if it's really an SP2 disc, I'd fall back and start over. Use the Boot Camp Utility to "restore startup disk to a single partition", and then (probably after running Disk Utility to see if anything needs fixing) trying again. At this point you have more time tied up in not getting anything done than it'll take to start fresh.

I followed your advice as will as others in disabling blue tooth and usb devices as well as loading 10.5.1 and a MacbookMacbookProSU1.1.dmg update suggested in the .MAC forum. Still same behavior. The keyboard, function keys, and trackpad are all dead on the message to hit ENTER, R, or F3. I never get the popup screen to pick a partition to use for Boot Camp install.
Has anyone any more suggestions ?

It is absolutely an XP PRO SP2 ENG install disk mounted in the CD.

Just to make sure, NOTHING at all is plugged in when you run the Windows installer, right? Is the install disc scrupulously clean? Recent Macs tend to be sensitive to dirty, smudged or otherwise less than pristine discs, and the XP installer won't help you out by telling you it's having problems-until the install doesn't work. A perfectly clean CD won't hurt anything and doesn't take much time either. Windex or high-percentage isopropyl alcohol and good paper towel are great choices for cleaning them...
