I've got XP running via Boot Camp on my 17" MacBook Pro. It's great, but now I'd like to step it up a notch and add the 30" Apple Cinema Display. However, when I check the supported resolution on the XP side, it shows 1680 x 1050 (the native resolution of the laptop) as the maximum resolution.

Has anyone run an external monitor in this same configuration (XP via Boot Camp on a MB Pro laptop)? Can you please tell me if it was plug and play? Or did you need to do anything special to get it to work?

Thanks!

Turns out I was wrong. In WinXP you need to turn off the laptop display (aka: lid closed) and then go back to the resolution settings. Now, the full native resolution is available. Set that and save the configuration and Viola! You're done!

Now I've got a bitchen 30" Cinema Display powered via my 17" MacBook Pro.

Switch displays in the Display Control Panel... built-in screen and external display resolution are totally independent.
