I installed IE7 and absolutely hate it. I cannot find a way to downgrade to IE6...it says it cannot install IE6 since it's older than IE7, even though I removed IE7 via Add/Remove Programs-->Windows Components. I did see an undeletable Internet Explorer folder in my Program Files folder.

Why is this so difficult?

Try these instructions. Basically, you have to remove IE7 before you can install IE6. it's doable, just not as simple as it should be.

Thanks. I did that before I posted and it didn't work. I rolled my system back using that System Restore thing (which I'm surprised I didn't disable like I usually do). Now I've got IE6.

I appreciate your help.

As the linked site says, that was with a beta of IE7... Just like MS to change things like that. I'm glad you got it solved, though.

You don't have to go through the full un-install if you want to keep using IE6 (god knows why, as a web programmer I wish it and it's fist full of unpredictable rendering bugs would die a quick death). you can use this standalone version of IE6

I wanted to kill IE7 because it is an unconfigurable POS, uses a non-standard UI (worse than Opera), and is buggy. IE6 isn't much better but I can make it look like I want and it's a familiar UI. I don't use it, I use Firefox 2, I just want it "just in case."
