I'm replacing my aging Sun server (500MHz Sparc) with Linux on a PPC Mac Mini. Since Solaris on PPC is basically non-existant (I'm not interested in running buggy OpenSolaris for PPC), I'm looking at Linux.

As I understand it, there are three major distros for PPC -- Yellow Dog, Debian and Ubuntu. I've read that Ubuntu is going away, which leaves Yellow Dog and Debian. Which of those distros would be the best choice for PPC? This will be a server running Apache, sendmail, IMAP, etc, and no desktop. Just a headless server.

Suggestions?

Yellow Dog is specifically for PPC. I'd go with that.

How does YDL handle server duties? I don't see a "server" version on Terra Soft's page; is there one?

larrinski, you can read about Ubuntu and PPC support at the following link. There are links to the wiki and discussion about support.

ghporter, I plan on using it as a server as opposed to a desktop. It just means I don't need the distro with the best-looking desktop. Underneath it's all the same.

I get ya now...I skimmed over the PPC part. I thought you meant that Ubuntu as a distro was going away. I think in the next 2 years or so, this will be the case for most distros though. PPC is sadly fading into history...
