So, my MBP should be delivered today. I plan on reinstalling OSX right away to remove the language packs and save some hard drive space. I also want to install and play around with bootcamp/parallels. My question is...

When I'm reinstalling OSX should/can I make the bootcamp partition at that time?

Also, I wanted to run parallels off the bootcamp partition (I heard this was possible). Is there any disadvantage to running parallels off the bootcamp partition instead what parallels normally does by default?

I figured I'd mess around with all this stuff before I started getting a bunch of data on my MBP and have to worry about backing it up : )

I'd let Bootcamp make the partition -- it makes an extra hidden partition that you probably don't know about.

You're smart to try Parallels before getting a bunch of important information on your machine. That way if it doesn't work, you can just reformat. I haven't tried booting my Bootcamp partition with Paralells but I know it works for some folks.

There is a Paralells discussion at Parallels Support Forum - Powered by vBulletin

Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't see any options to make sepperate partitions when I was reinstalling os x anyways, so that solved that. I'll let bootcamp deal with it.

I was pretty happy to find out that I saved 3gb on my hard drive by ditching the extra languages and print drivers that I didn't need.
