My G5 Mac could always see my PC with XP, I could also easily access shared folders, etc.

After I upgraded to Vista Ultimate I cannot seem to figure out how to get my PC to show up in my Mac Finder Network tab. My settings have not changed.

Any ideas? Is there a way to do it so I can get back to normal networking? Any way to search for computers on the network on the Mac?

Anyone else have the same experience?

Thanks!

Is sharing turned on in Vista? Is the Vista machine in the "workgroup" workgroup? Can you check the ip address of the Vista machine and connect that way? Can you connect from the Vista machine to the Mac?

I don't knnow why anyone would upgrade to Vista if they have a Mac. Apple already stated that they don't recommend upgrading to Vista if you are using iTunes. More and likely, Vista with it's extra security has blocked networking to the Mac.

The Vista machine CAN see the Mac..just not the other way around.

How does one go about discovering new machines on a network via the Mac is the question...

This may help. Tiger OS can't handle encrypted passwords which is a default setting on Server2003 and "I'm guessing - Vista as well". To connect a Mac to Server 2003, encrypted passwords must not be required. I do not know how or if this is disabled in Vista.

Have you considered Vista's security features may be preventing this? In other words, does the firewall in Vista know that it's supposed to be visible on the network?
