Last summer i bought myself a shiny new Macbook Pro 15,4" - for studies as well as some gaming via Bootcamp.
First off, I started and finished Half-Life 2 and then some Civilization IV. All was running well on high settings, and there were no stability problems at all.
However, when i bought and installed Battlefield 2142, and Rome: Total War, things changed.
Within minutes - most often after 20-30 minutes of gameplay - the MBP would just shut down. No blue screen of death, no error message, nothing. Just a black screen, then it reboots itself. At first i thought this could be a thermal shutdown, but the computer does not have to be any hot at all.
Possible solutions tried:
- Updated GPU-drivers
- Omega-drivers
- Underclocking the GPU
- Overclocking the GPU
- Adjusting fans to high speed at all times
- Playing next to the window
- Resetting PSU and PRAM
- Settings in the games affected
- Full reinstall of Bootcamp, windows and drivers
The shutdowns only occur when playing games. When doing benchmarks or scanning for artifacts it runs like a dream for hours.
I've really run out of ideas now. Could it be faulty hardware?
Anyone else experiencing this?
(Please excuse my english, it's not my native language)
