Hello

Some time ago I installed BootCamp and Windows XP on a friend's iMac. The thing is he needed to work with a specific piece of software not available for Mac OS (Lulo, a building cost analisis tool), anyway the partition got corrupted (maybe a virus, I haven't checked yet) and there is data that hasn't been backed up.

I have no problem dealing with a reinstall of everything since my friend has all the necessary disks but I am not sure I will be able to recover data from that partition in Disk Utility...

Are there any other means to rescue the data on the windows partition?

Any help will be greatly appreciated

No matter which format you used for his Windows partition, it's readable by OS X. And if the disk got corrupted by a virus, that's no big deal because Windows viruses can't hurt OS X. So have him open the Windows partition using Finder and see if he can find the stuff he needs.

Thanks for the swift response

I dealt with the beast this morning and it was easier than expected: a .dll was missing (?) anyway, inserted the Windows Xp CD and pressed the "R" key

Voila! all set, upgraded the antivirus and finished, maybe one hour, not more than that (my son would have reformatted the hard drive, reinstalled software and the likes, but I am from the school of "if it is not broken don't fix it")

Thanks again
