I have these problem constantly with my Mac Pro, and ATi X1900XTX. The game also crashes all the time too.

It sucks.

A whole lot.

I heard there were problems with Radeon X1900XT a few months back...wow...you'd think Apple would fix this ASAP. Have you tried installing real Radeon X1900XT drivers (Windows drivers)?

Yeah, I have. Apple's drivers never worked properly for me, so I just went and installed plain ol' AMD drivers.

I can't stress the video card for more than maybe 10 minutes before it freaks out. This means I basically can't play any games.

That, and the fans rev up really loudly!

I had no luck installing the Apple/bootcamp ATI drivers at all in my MacPro with X1900XT, so I downloaded/installed them direct from ATI... YET IT STILL TOOK 3 attempts to get the drivers to take... I was also pretty hesitant to upgrade them last week, but went ahead and had no issues. Still haven't updated DirectX yet though...

I'm playing a fairly demanding 3D WW1 flight sim (ThirdWire) released last Dec, and get some minor graphics issues, occasional tile clipping, BUT nothing like what you are reporting with overheating. Me thinks you have hardware problems.
ALL PC users with ATI cards are also reporting the same graphics bugs I have, so I would suspect ATI of having put out some crappy product lately...

I suggest following the ATI uninstall/install directions to-the-T, which requires that you delete drivers before updating, etc. and then try a fresh install all inside of Windows. ALSO try this first, the ATI catalyst control center has a pretty good interface to change 3D settings, try eliminating some of the filters especially the anisotropic, it may fix some graphics bugs.

Catalyst Control Center just made it worse.

The exact same thing has happened on every single install of windows I've had, although on Vista they've been more serious.

It always ends up with "R300: The device driver has stopped responded, but recovered" error. Sometimes this means the game crashes, sometimes it doesn't.

Have any of you tried downclocking the ATI video card to gain more stability? This was the only option I was left with for my MBP 17". My process is documented in a post in this forum here. That way you can evaluate it for yourself and experiment with different settings.
