My school is allowing all Engineering students to legally download copies of Windows XP, Vista, among other Windows software. I downloaded the XP file but it's a .exe file. The webpage says that I can download an .iso file for XP but I get this .exe instead. Any thoughts on what should I do? Can I just burn this file to a disk? I abhor using PCs but 2 or 3 Engineering applications require me to do so.

Thanks in advance.

I tried opening the .exe file, but it says it can't be extracted.

Check with your program people. If you need an .iso, they should be able to give you the tech support you need to get it to work. If the .exe doesn't extract, it's probably because it's a specialized installer file, not a compressed file. And that won't work for your hardware, so they should have some sort of way to help you out.

It's probably a self-extracting zip-file. Try opening it in Stuffit Expander if you haven't already (and renaming the suffix to .zip). Alternatively, install CodeWeaver's Crossover Demo. It should be sufficient for extracting the iso.
