I was planning on doing some messing around with BSD/Linux on my G5. I did notice that some versions of Linux and BSD can't read HFS+ partitions. Now I've read plenty of horror stories about installing OS X on a UFS partition. Would there be any problems with making two partitions, one to hold OS X and applications and a UFS partition to hold data to be shared between the two OSes (like music and such)?

I've used OS X on a dozen Macs all with HFS+ since the public beta, and have had no issues. I don't know what horror stories you've heard implicating HFS+.

Sorry. I meant to say that I've heard horror stories about installing OS X on a UFS partition.

There is a FreeBSD port that will read HFS volumes:

FreshPorts -- emulators/hfs
