I finally got around to installing BootCamp with XP Pro on my 2GHz MacBook (Core Duo). This is a 1st install - I never tried the earlier BootCamp revs or any of the other XP-on-MacIntel solutions.

First, I have to give credit for a job well done. Boot Camp 1.3 seems to run very well with XP SP2 on my MacBook. And it's surprisingly fast too compared to my HP notebook at work.

The only problem I've run into is that I can't seem to enable the tap feature of the trackpad. Thanks to the MacNN forum "search" feature I'm now able to right click using the cumbersome 2 finger+button combination. I couldn't find any mention of this in the Boot Camp documentation - a frustrating ommision if you didn't have a mouse handy after the install (IMHO). I've tried re-installing the drivers several times but no luck. The 2-finger scroll feature works so it seems the driver was actually installed. WinXP also indicates the driver (Apple TrackPad Enabler) is working properly. Do I need to download another program/utility? From using so many PC notebooks over the years I've noticed a TrackPad tab was almost always present in the Mouse properties - sometimes in the System Tray as well. What am I missing here ?

It sounds like, no matter what Windows says about it, your trackpad drivers aren't properly installed. Unless a driver is producing an error code, Windows says it's doing great. Reinstall the drivers and see if that helps.

I don't think tap-click works in windows yet, you just have to use th button. It would be nice if BootCamp actually let you configure the mouse controls and keyboard controls like in MacOS X, so you know for certain what the features are and what should be working and what is disabled etc. Hopefully for the final BootCamp release they will have a trackpad properties editor for windows.

PS, your drivers are likely properly installed!
I suppose we just need to be patient. Personally I was used to the tap click myself, but it just takes a bit of time to get used to using the button and messing around with the two finger + click right-clicking.

Seconded. They just haven't enabled tap-to-click yet in Boot Camp. Hopefully that'll be pretty high on their list of things to do by now.

Thanks everyone. I don't mind waiting for the tap-click feature. Boot Camp works very well with the 2 finger + button solution for right clicking in Windows. I do however wish this tiny bit of information was in the Boot Camp docs. It would've saved a heckuvalot of time and aggravation.

I have to admit, I haven't tried any of the fancy trackpad functions. When I run Windows, a try to always have a two- or three-button mouse connected, so the trackpad is just a handy extra for me. I hope that soon (perhaps BC 1.3.3?) Apple will provide a real, working, fully functional trackpad driver for Windows. It's not like the hardware is that different from that found in PC laptops...

I just installed bootcamp/xp, - everything is great (well done apple)..... except this! I can't believe I can't tap-click - its driving me crazy - in fact I have never ever used the trackpad button, since I got my first notebook, a tibook, years ago.

The thing is XP should have the capability to handle it - I remember I could tap-click on my old grandfathers old windows notebook, and that was maybe 5 years ago......?
