Hi there, i'm fairly new to macs, i have a mac, when i click partition on boot camp and, when i choose the space, i just click 'divide so it's 12gb for mac and 26 for windows'. It says 'status: partitioning..', then an error comes up:

''verfication failed. this disk could not be partitioned''
''use disk utility to repair this disk.''

Why does this come up?
What do i have to do/click in disk utilitys (could you tell me what to click as i do not know myself)

any help for a poor student?

Thank you, hope for replys
Joe

Welcome to the MacNN Forums!

This error comes up because there is some sort of low-level error in your drive's data structures. You fix it with Disk Utility-but NOT in OS X. Boot your computer from the OS X install disc. When it finishes booting, click on the Tools menu at the top and select Disk Utility. Select your whole drive, and let Disk Utility do its thing to fix it. Then you're done.

You can't do this while running OS X because the issues are in sections of the disk that can't be touched by OS X. So you boot from the install disc and then you're NOT running OS X, you're running the installer.

And don't worry, this same thing happened to me when I partitioned my own disk with Boot Camp.

Windows Vista has been installed. However, it say's 'after installed windows, use the mac windows drivers to install mac specific drivers and other software for windows'...

When i open the mac drivers cd it says 'open the program with what application'. Are they ment to be open up in windows?
If so, how do u access windows, i tried pressing the 'option' key (the one beside the space bar) when the computer starts up.

Help pls.

Have you read the BC instructions?

See page 18.

Thank you, it all works perfectly!

However, i'm now in windows and i don't know how to access apple mac.
(when i was in apple, i clicked preferences and put 'use windows as the defult load in os)...how do i get back

Joe
(the pressing the option button when the system loads up does not work.)

When i click 'system propteries' in windows, the os start up only says windows, there's no mac there.

At boot, as soon as you hear the system chime, you have to *hold* the option key until you see the volume selection screen. From Windows, use the Startup Disk control panel. From Mac OS X, use the Startup Disk preferences pane.

I've been pressing that options button, with the windows & the mac installation keys, it just boots up into windows normally. It's like the apple sysmbol doesn't even come up.

Have you installed the drivers yet? If so, in the Windows Control Panel you'll have an applet called "Startup Disk." This should show you the two options: OS X or Windows. Choose OS X and then tell it to restart your machine. You should reboot into OS X.

Please report on this-it sounds like things are confusing for you, and hopefully we can help get you un-confused.

No. It's the the key labeled "option" two keys to the left of the spacebar. Again, reboot the machine and hold the option key.

And have you checked the Startup disk control panel or system preferences as I mentioned?
