I uninstalled parallels to install VMware, but even when I start from boot camp or VMware, the same thing happens:

It says choose which operating system to boot from, Parallels, or Windows XP home edition. It automatically chooses parallels and then gives me an error message that something system32 couldn't be found. In either boot camp or VMware, I have to be right there and press the down arrow at just the right second to get windows to boot up normally.

How do I erase that Parallels option, or at least make the "Windows XP Home Edition" the default way so it can start up without any action by me?

Edit your boot.ini file.

It's on your Windows partition... once you open it up it's pretty self explanatory... should look something like:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Paral lels"

Change the default to match the option you want to boot, and you delete the Parallels line all together.
