I installed bootcamp. Solidworks. A few games. I uninstalled solidworks. Now I only have XP, a few small programs, and 1 game, yet it's taking up 17 of the 20 gigs of space on my XP drive. Does uninstalling remove files, or just the .exe? Where did all my space go?

Did you empty the Trash? Did the uninstaller remove the program folder in /Program Files? Did the uninstaller remove all the Start Menu items for it? It sounds like the uninstaller was...inefficient. If not just plain bad. You may need to simply pull all of that stuff yourself. And then run Disk Defragmenter to close up the big (and probably well distributed) holes deleting that much stuff will leave in the file system. Your data files may also be laying around-and there's no telling how big they are.

What game do you have installed? It could be that the game is just huge. For instance on a 25gig partition I had a plain vanilla XP with Crysis and Hellgate installed, I was left with 1.95gigs left checked add/remove and Crysis was taking a whopping 10gigs by itself. I ended up uninstalling Crysis.
So for games you might want to make a larger partition or install them on an other drive completely. I personally would suggest a different drive for your larger apps and games. One of the benefits in my case is a cooler MBP since the internal drive isn't working as hard, while the external is taking most if not all of the brunt of playing games.
Hope that helps.

Could also run disk cleanup and remove any temporary files that may be lingering.

Some of the saved game files for certain games can get pretty big, too.

I guess I was "smiley deficient" in that one, wasn't I? Oops.

Glad to help-but a "speedy" reply was accidental. I am online at odd times and just happened across the post.
