This started a couple of weeks ago. I'd be doing something be it browsing, working with Access/Excel or gaming. Then the system would lock up. So I reinstalled XP all together yet the problem persist. It ran fine up until a couple of weeks ago.

Running XP SP2
Latest drivers from Apple
MacBook Pro 2.4

I checked out the error logs but couldn't find anything. I'm thinking it could be a bad driver or perhaps over heating.

On the OSX side, I use SMC Fan Control, but I'm not sure what to use on the XP side.

I tried running the Apple Hardware test but couldn't get my MBP to boot from my Tiger dvd.

I'm thinking it may be a driver confliction. Is there a way to update the Boot Camp drivers?

It has started happening to me to this week. First it started on XP for no apparent reason. I restored the C: drive to a previous state and everything was fine. I lost faith in XP though and formatted the drive for Vista. Now Vista is doing the same thing. The machine will freeze sometimes and then reboot. Doesn't make sense. I only use Windows for gaming.

It doesn't really make sense that you should have freezing that frequently in XP...I've run XP/Pro for months and months straight with no stability issues.

If it's happening even with a completely fresh install, there may be a hardware or driver issue that's making it that unstable. Try using Memtest86+ or Memtestx86 to make sure your RAM is all on the up and up. The last time I had any major stability issue like what you're experiencing was when I was trying to combine different brands of RAM, and XP just flaked out on me.

Did you look to see if there's any messages in the event viewer.

since windows usually likes to blindly download updates, its possible one is in conflict with your system. I have automatic update turned off since I personally don't like being warned that I need to log out while I'm in the middle of working (that happens too often)

I'm thinking hardware as a problem here, specifically RAM. How about some specs from those of you who are having this problem?

I have a MBP I picked up after the last revision. Stock 2gb or RAM and a 200gb hd. I tried doing the Apple Hardware test with my Tiger dvd, but I couldn't get it to boot from the dvd.

It does sound like a hardware issue.
RAM could be a viable option, but most times XP encounters bad RAM, it seems to blue screen and reboot.
Are you having *any* strange issues in Leopard?

When the machine freezes, does any music running at the time stop as well? Could just be that the keyboard and trackpad stop working.

No problems in Tiger at all. When XP freezes, it freezes completely. Sometimes it doesn't boot up, sometimes it stops at the splash screen, sometimes it stops while being used. Checked the event logs and what not, haven't seen any errors there.

I've had XP installed since August and didn't have any problems until about two weeks ago.

If not RAM, then a driver conflict (or bug) is a serious contender. What is running besides the drivers Apple supplied? What added hardware, if any?
