Quick question: On the right side of my E1505, above the hard drive, there's a slot with an ejector and a plastic insert that comes out when ejected. What's this slot for?

It's probably the PCMCIA slot. is it about the width of a credit card?
These slots are used for putting things like, USB, Firewire, Modem and Wireless cards into to add capability/expandability to the laptop.

NO. Its an Express Card slot. You'll NEVER get a PC card into there. I had to "educate" my son when he got his 1505; "this is for a new format called Express Cards, NOT SD cards and certainly not for PC cards." There still aren't any Express Cards on the market that have made me itch to have one for my MBP...

If I came off a little strong there, it's because the memory of "but dad! What'll I put in that?" was still pretty fresh, in spite of the intervening 18 months...
Express Card official site
Dell's specs for the I1505 Note that there is ALSO a "5 in 1" multimedia card reader on that side.
