So I finally got Windows Vista running on my 24". The setup is quite nice with a dedicated NTFS 100gb partition for Windows, and MacDrive so I can pull up all the files on the Mac drive. Reason for doing this is so I can play all my music/movies/pictures when in either OS w/out having to have doubles of everything. Question is... is it bad for hardware or anything by playing my mp3 in Windows using MacDrive and running them off the Mac partition? I'll stop if there are any risks... Thanks in advance!

"Bad for hardware?" What do you think might happen?

No, there are no problems with doing this.

I don't see how it could be bad, unless MacDrive gives any Windows app the ability to write to the Mac partition. This has the potential to turn ugly in the event some errant installer, virus, trojan, or any other application thinks it needs to do some writing to that partition, and then it winds up messing up system files.

See, I really have no idea. I didn't know if it was bad to have 2 different partitions that are unrecognizable by default to be using files based on software. But if it's no big deal, that's great news. Thanks, Steve

As long as you have the correct drivers installed (should not be an issue if you installed with bootcamp). It is possible to damage hardware from software, but it isn't easy, and generally you need to make an effort to make it happen.

I don't think you need to worry. If you have concern about Windows malware affecting the Mac side, you could make a separate partition with all your data files on it, and only mount that with MacDrive on the Vista side. That way OSX will be (more) protected.
