If your Mac OS is connected to internet, is Windows XP or Vista connected to the internet automatically? or do you need to set it up?

Yes, Internet is automatically set up, though you can change it.

Thanks. Are they using the line that was setup by Mac OS, or xp/vista detect the wireless line automatically and connect to the internet? Which is which?

Not sure what you mean, but both Parallels and Fusion configure themselves to piggyback off of OS X's net connection. They won't, by default, try to get on the net in a way that bypasses OS X.

Does that mean if I turn off my internet connection in Mac OS, there will be no internet connection in Windows XP or Vista?

Yes.

However, I believe they both support a sort of independent network capability. Not sure, though, as I've always used Fusion through OS X's connection (either wifi or ethernet).

Both Parallels and Fusion support shared networking (using the Mac's Internet connection for both OS X and Windows) and bridged networking (Windows gets its own IP address and unique connection). Both programs set the default for new VMs to shared so you don't have to mess with Windows networking settings at all to get a connection.

Theoretically correct but in practice...
As a PD user since the early days, I find it still to be quirky using 10.5.1 and the latest build of PD. But nothing that can't be corrected by going to the device dropdown and changing settings, in this case, here is the default setting amid the others which are not so intuitive:

In my case, the network connection is over the wireless connection with an IP assigned (that's not the same one as the host, ie. shared). Clicking on Shared does not work nor does Host-only, but not sure what the latter is even supposed to do. I think the interesting feature here is the ability to assign the connection to a specific hardware adapter, which is very cool for Lans not connected to the internet for security reasons.

All in all PD and networking works well, but sometimes the settings get changed arbitrarily - remembering this screen cap may help get things back to normal. Now, only if PD would add firewire support! Cheers!!!
