would windows naturally install into a mbp and if so, would all XP programs work as well as it would work on a non-mac laptop?

for instance, would I have to use a program to install XP and then have it use only a limited amount of resources of the MBP (i.e. 1ghz of the cpu, 512mb of the ram, 64VRAM, etc.) and have it bottleneck the performance on XP?

Windows runs fully and capably on a MBP as if it were on a regular Dell or HP machine.

Using 'Bootcamp', it would partition the hard drive (you can select partition sizes etc), and then install Windows onto a second parition. You can only dual boot OS X/Windows, and not run both OSes simultaneously...

As for it being 'like' a windows machine, when you are booted in to the Windows Boot Camp partition, it *is* a proper, bona fide windows box.

If you want to have Windows in an emulated/dual boot environment, you'll need something like 'Parallels', but not used it since beta, so not sure how the set up works atm as to setting resource limits, but I am sure someone else can post the info

so once i use bootcamp to partition my hard drives into one for OSX and one for windows, it would ask me which OS i want to boot into when i turn the MBP on, right?

and is bootcamp free or do i have to buy it?

Boot Camp is included with Leopard (the latest version of Mac OS X). You can select which OS to boot into by default, and you can also choose on a boot-by-boot basis which one to boot for when you want the other one. Windows XP runs very well on my Core Duo 2.0GHz MBP. Hint: EVERYTHING runs better with more RAM. RAM is cheap right now-bulk up!
