No problems here...have you updated Windows enough times it tells you it doesn't need any more updates (and restarts)?

How much memory and which video card? Did you install Apple's BootCamp drivers (obtained from the BootCamp Assistant program)?

havent update windows no....

I have the stock readon 2600 hd card. I have installed the boot camp drivers off my leopard dvd.

Quake wars did NOT start, so I updated the ATI drivers to 8.1 newest ones for my card.

then, quake wars DID work, until I rebooted now it always crashes. But it did work once, but not anymore.

its a real pain to hear others on CHEAPER and SLOWER macs are playing games, but my $3000 macpro can not.

it MIGHT be because of ATI drivers, what video card you running? I THINK nvidia cards and drivers are better, because i have seen no problems report online, but thats is NOT scientific.

Ah, the joys of Windows!

You really should get all the Microsoft updates before even attempting to install anything. The longer you don't update, the greater likelihood of someone getting access with an exploit that Microsoft has patched with their hundreds of security patches. After you've completed updated, completely uninstall and reinstall your games. See how they work then.

When you've updated and if things still don't work, it sometimes helps to go into task manager, find the application you're trying to run in there and set it's affinity to use only cpu 0.
Also, try getting updates for the game from the manufacturers websites.

Go to processes and find the .exe that's the game. Right click on it, set affinity, uncheck all the checked CPU boxes except 0.

Its not a windows update thing. Its probably a video driver thing.

I've built hundreds of windows machines and XP with even SP1 and no further windows updates are capable of playing nearly every game available today. All thats important is directX to be up to date and video drivers to have proper openGL and Direct3D support. The base MS provided drivers generally do not support proper 3D acceleration. Not sure how the bootcamp drivers are either...

If you haven't already done so, make sure your Windows DirectX is up to date. I had major ATI BC driver issues, and ended up installing them directly from ATI, but then had glitchy graphics output.
The BC 1.4 drivers seemed to have solved my problems tho (knock on wood!!!).

In the case of problems with games in Windows, the usual procedure that solves 99% of issues is to install the latest DirectX, run something like DriverCleaner to remove all traces of ATI drivers, and then to install the newest CATALYSTs from ATI's website.

Windows security updates have absolutely no impact on the functionality/stability of games.

If your stuff keeps crashing, try running something like MemTest86+, and let it test your RAM for a few hours. This is a more thorough test than anything Apple does with their Hardware Test thing.

If stuff keeps crashing, talk to Apple and see if they'll exchange your video card. I used to deal a lot with games and video cards (reviewing), and in the most desperate situations where nothing we could do helped, we ended up replacing the video card, and that solved everything.

Specifically, download this to update DirectX 9 in XP. Near monthly releases are common, though games are normally decent about running this when needed:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Also, grab the latest ATI drivers from AMD here:
AMD GAME! Drivers and Utilities

Newer video drivers often have fixes necessary to run newer games.
