and I'm having serious issues. I had trouble getting it to open at all and had to reinstall a couple times. The first time I got it to open, it worked briefly, and then I left the computer for a while. I came back to boot Parallels and got this message:
Parallels Desktop is unable to operate properly since it cannot communicate with one of its drivers. Try to restart the application to overcome this issue. If restart doesn't help, re-install Parallels Desktop. Note that Parallels drivers require a short time to be properly started and initialized. So you may need to wait a minute before trying to launch the application.
I uninstalled, reinstalled, updated after struggling to get it to open, left it for a bit, and now I'm getting the same message. Why is this software so buggy? Anyone know what's going on? Thanks.

Can you give some more details about what exactly you've done? Are you trying to use Parallels with a Boot Camp installation or are you starting from scratch and installing Windows (or some other OS) on a Parallels virtual disk? At what point do you see the message: when you start Parallels or when you are starting the virtual machine within Parallels?

And what computer, OS version, and Parallels version are you using?

I think I've figured out what's causing the problem. I had a DVD in the drive when I was booting up Parallels. Since I took out the DVD, I'm having no problems loading it. I guess it doesn't matter now, but I'm using Parallels with a Windows Boot Camp partition. I was getting the message upon double clicking to open Parallels. I'm running the most current version of Parallels, as I was able to update at some point last night.

Moral of the story: Don't run Parallels with a DVD in your drive. Doh!
