hey,
I got a macbook a couple of weeks ago and needed windows on it because some of my discs for school programs only run through windows so I installed bootcamp and windows xp.
but when you do that you have to register the windows xp thing ... i cant do this unless i have internet on the pc side.
I'm not sure how to get that connection.. I've tried a couple of times myself.
I've also looked on the mac website in support.
When i rang mac, they said they couldnt offer support because it was a windows issue and when I rang my internet provider, they said they didn't know because it was a macbook.
I've only got a few days left to register the pc side!
Thanks
LOZ.

Your post doesn't say what sorts of issues you've encountered in trying to get online while running XP. It could be something as simple as going into the settings for the Ethernet adapter and telling it to renew a DHCP address. But there are a few things that come to mind. First, did you put the Leopard disc in once XP was installed so that it would install the Windows drivers? You need those drivers to make the built in Ethernet and AirPort cards work. Second, how have you physically connected the MacBook to your network (and what is your setup? modem/router or something else?)?

You can also register XP by telephone (it's a free call here in the States...), but it's less simple than the online method.

well i dont know what ethernet is..or a DHCP address.
i did put the leopard disc in when XP was installed but it wouldnt install anything because the windows installer was out of date. i then tried to get windows update/installer 2 [or something like that] but it said something about needing 4 mb more space.. so i deleted more than enough stuff in the area.. it should have had plenty of space and it kept coming up with that message.
my macbook connections are fine on the mac side.. yes its with a modem but its wireless broadband...
thank you!

It sounds like you didn't install the right version of XP. It absolutely MUST include Service Pack 2 (SP2) or it won't work. Period. Maybe you're having this problem not because the drivers didn't install but because you installed a too-old version of XP.

Ethernet is the wired networking connection. DHCP is an automatic address-assigning protocol that allows you to just plug your computer in and start surfing-if everything is properly connected at least.

I seem to be suffering the same problem. I've installed Windows XP on Bootcamp. I cannot connect to the internet.

When i loaded the MAC OS X Leopard disc it came up with the message - 'This package requires a newer version of the windows installer do you want to update the version of the windows installer on your system?' When I answered yes it came up with the message 'The required 'UPDATE' is missing.

Does this mean I've installed an old version of XP? Does this mean I have to get a newer version and undo everything I've already done before I reinstall?

Quesera1, to find out what version of Windows you have installed, open the System Properties window (from the Control Panel or by right-clicking on "My Computer" and selecting Properties). It will tell you what the OS thinks is the current operating system, RAM, and clock speed.
