I'm on Leopard firstly, and I'd like to Screen Share (or Connect Remotely) with my Windows XP box in my network to do my downloads on, and then transfer my downloads from Windows to my Mac. Leopard has a VNC Screen Sharing program built in, what VNC program can I get for Windows that is compatibly with Leopard's VNC and how will I get it to work?

If you find the Windows box's IP adress, then just type vnc://[windows ip here] into finder's "Connect to Server" command in the "Go" menu. That'll do it for Mac to Windows sharing. I'll let someone else tackle the Windows to Mac side of it.

You need a VNC server running on the windows box. I use realvnc. There's a bunch of free ones that seem decent.

Start searching for a Windows VNC server-there's bound to be a few free ones around. And once you get this set up, be aware that transferring your downloads over your network (VNC or not) will be pretty slow. You may want to consider some other method for moving the files.

You want to remote control a Windows box?
use Cord
CoRD: Remote Desktop for Mac OS X
or
Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/product...p/default.mspx

Both are free and speedier than VNC. But, they won't work with Home versions of Windows.

I installed RealVNC free version on my PC, on my Mac, I selected "Connect to Server" from Finder, typed vnc://192.168.0.3 and keep getting the error "Please make sure that Screen Sharing (in the Sharing section of System Preferences) is enabled on the computer you're attempting to connect to. Also make sure your network connection is working properly."

I'm moving this to Alt OS because it is more about Windows than OS X.

You need to enable the legacy protocol in RealVNC.

Since I haven't mentioned it yet, why do you even bother with VNC ?

Use LogMeIn, and your config and firewall problems are gone once and for all.

To transfer files back and forth, you would need a different solution anyways.
