For reasons I won't go in to, I updated a XP vm to vista. I did this by installing Vista over XP in the vm.

All seems fine, except that unity doesn't work. I can select it (it is not greyed out), but it doesn't "take" the change. The Vista window disappears, but no apps appear. I need to go in, change to say full screen to get things back.

I tried reinstalling vmware tools and repairing them, but no fix.

Here are my questions:
1) are the vmware tools the same for vista and xp?
2) vmware still identifies this vm as a Win XP machine. Is there a way/do I need to tell it that this is actually now Vista?
3) Has anyone else had unity issues with Vista?

MacBook C2D, 4gb, 10.5.2.

thanks!

I also have Vista running on VMware Fusion. When I use Unity, I usually have to either try a couple of times, or I have to set it and then wait a minute for it to work. It is pretty annoying, and a lot of times I stay in single-window mode just because of that (though then I get stuck with the Command+Tab Start-menu problem).

I have not problems with Vista and Unity. The first time I tried, I had to install the tools, from then on, it just worked. Don't know what I did right though...
