Hi guys, huh, i was wondering if you could tell me how to fix this; well, i have two laptops, a MBP and a COMPAQ presario R3000, my MBP and a friends HP "does" work, meaning that they can get to the internet, the problem with the COMPAQ is that just know after i got from the bank it doesn't connect to the internet, the thing is that everything says that is working just fine and everything IS fine, but doesn't want to get in the internet, it only says "work offline", and nothing i've tried seems to do something about it, the router has been reseted, i hit the repair button for network, and it repairs it and says your problem was solved, and still is not working.
Help please

First, reboot the Compaq. If it still doesn't connect, repair the connection-twice. I've seen Windows not really get the connection set up properly when the first "repair" finishes, but the second one works fine after that.
Also, keep an eye on both the MBP and your friend's HP; your router may need a reboot itself, and a simple reset doesn't always do the job.
Let us know how it goes.

Are all applications having difficulty connecting to the internet, or is it limited to a specific few?
Could it be a internet proxy setting? You mentioned using the machines at various locations so perhaps the compaq is using different settings from the other machines?
Also, see if you're getting an IP address
1) Control Panel > Network Settings (or the equivalent) and click on the network adapter you use (wired/wireless), or
2) Start > Run > command > ipconfig /all
You should get something other than 169.x.x.x

Slightly off-topic and absolutely non-personal:
When I first saw the thread I was thinking of how huge a support nightmare Apple would have it if OS X were officially open to all x86 machines. :/

The only thing i haven't done is reset the router, and i haven't done it because theres way too many laptops at the office.

Try entering a straight IP: 17.149.160.10 (that's Apple's homepage).

Also, entering the IP directly didn't work out T_T.

Admins have more power and responsibility beyond moderating. Regular mods tend to their assigned forums or, if they are super-mods, have mod powers across the entire boards, including permanent ban powers.

At this point I'd probably turn to the Windows install disc and try the Repair Windows option.

Haha, you are talking like if you have powers =P, even though they have better privileges than moderators.

Windows repairs seldom do any good. It's usually a drive nuking affair, in me experience.

You want to try a "repair installation" first rather than either using the Recovery Console or nuking it and starting over. Follow the instructions here. This method preserves things like installed programs and existing user accounts, but rebuilds XP's critical files. You will need to apply any and all updates since the date of your install disc, but that may be a blessing, since MS tends to roll bunches of older updates into a single, more recent update.
Good luck.
