I seem to have no audio in xp and when i go into the audio device properties i'm told that there is no audio device. I searched the forums and found information telling me to use the hardware update wizard to locate the realtek audio folder in program files. When i do this it just says that it couldn't install as the wizard couldn't find the necessary software.

Are you running XP through Bootcamp or Fusion/Parallels?

If it's Bootcamp, have you installed the Apple drivers?

If it's Fusion/Parallels, have you run their specific tools?

I have bootcamp and yes I installed the drivers. Hell, i did it twice to make sure. I did notice one thing when installing it though. At the point where either the realtek audio or the sigmatel audio was installing, a popup opened saying something to the effect of this program is already in use as though I had tried to install the drivers multiple times while it was already installing.

I had the exact same problem the first time I installed XP and now I can't remember how I fixed it. I think I ended up trying different drivers until I got one to work. I ended up having my HDD replaced so I had to reinstall XP and it worked like it should that time.

Do you remember what the drivers were? If I can't figure this out I'll probably just delete bootcamp and reinstall it. Hopefully it will work then. I really don't want to do that though because it takes forever to partition, install windows and then get all the programs you need to run it properly.

I assume that instead of a video card, you have a lot of "?" entries in Device Manager? Start getting the properties from each of these entries. Once you find the Realtek adapter, then tell Device Manager to update the driver. You'll get a chance to tell Device Manager where to look for the driver-make sure you include the path to the Realtek folder on the Leopard disc. DM should find the right driver on the disc (sometimes this isn't as obvious as it should be to the human eye) and install it. If it doesn't find the driver there for some reason, let it look on the Internet.

Probably being stupid but I don't know what you mean by realtek adapter. I deleted bootcamp and reinstalled it but it made no difference. I think it may actually be the sigmatel audio as when I run the driver installation a popup appears at that point stating that another instance of the application is already running. Weird. Also, in the device manager the only question mark I have is at the PCI device part.

Ok, you were talking about the Realtek audio folder, so I figured your Mac had a Realtek audio system-you didn't tell us what Mac you have...

And Boot Camp is just a utility that partitions your drive and lets you delete that partition-it does NOTHING after you've installed Windows, so deleting or reinstalling it won't do anything.

What Mac do you have? What "PCI device" part are you referring to in Device Manager? That device MAY be your sound system. What does it say when you check the properties for that device?

I have a 2.16 GHz Macbook running Leopard and with Bootcamp i've installed XP pro corporate edition SP3 As to the PCI device in Device manager it is in the other devices section. When I look at properties all that is said is: The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) and it prompts me to reinstall the drivers.

YES! I found out what to do. Tech ARP - ED#73 : Microsoft Windows XP SP3 RC Does NOT Support High Definition Audio has a program that you need to get in order for SP3 to allow HD audio to work. Thanks for all your help.
