For those of you that like to play with beta software, download here.

Here's the official announcement.

Highlights:
True Multi-Display Support
Easier Switching to VMware Fusion (integrated conversion of Parallels and Virtual PC VMs)
Experimental support for DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 2

I'm downloading now. I strictly use Unity mode and version 1 doesn't play well with Spaces....I'm hoping they've fixed it. I really like the idea of using both of my monitors as well.

Edit: Still no support for multiple snapshots. Not a problem for me, but seems to be a real issue for a lot of people.

I avoid unity mode, and the feature list isn't all that enticing to me. At least enticing enough to use a beta.

I'll let some of you more braver souls try it out

I agree that the feature list doesn't warrant a move from 1.x to 2.0. 2.0 is a free upgrade for all 1.x users. I think they're just trying to up the version number since Parallels is already at 3.0.

That's unexpected but of course very nice. I definitely wouldn't have paid for this upgrade.

Oh don't get me wrong, I just meant from the perspective of using it now (beta). I'll wait till it goes gold

Any idea if they'll lower the price? I bought Parallels, but now I'm using VMware Fusion on a 30-day trial and its a f*ckton better than Parallels at running Ubuntu.

I bought VMWare Fusion when it was first announced and got it at half price, maybe they'll do something similar or maybe it'll be part of a future MacHeist (Parallels was in the most recent one).

Ubuntu doesn't install (easily) into Parallels and neither do any of the other major Linux OSes.

Go to Macintouch. There is a half-price link there.

Also, usually Beta 1s of VMWare products are not feature complete meaning that they still have a lot more to add in the meantime. Finally, from reports of Beta 1 users there are other non-mentioned improvements.

I installed Counterstrike: Source onto my MacPro w/ nVidia 8800GT card and got 28 fps on the video stress test. Decent but not yet playable.
