We've got an office of all Macs and Base Stations, through which the printers are networked. We have three machines running VMWare with XP for finance, and none of the Xp installations can browse the printers on the network. I can add them fine by IP address, but I have to add a *local* standard TCP/IP port and then add the machine as a local machine with its address.

Why can I not browse the printers in XP? Clearly XP won't read Bonjour, but there's still got to be a way to make them visible. The reason I ask is that one printer purchased by the department, a little Brother HL-2170W, has no static IP address and cannot be added manually. I need it to be browsable on the network.

I *always* end up having to manually add printers by their IP address in the same method you describe. If you're clever you can copy & paste the printers between machines

Is your problem with the Brother that you don't have the IP address for it? Get Advanced IP Scanner for Windows. This will scan the network for devices and give you their IP and MAC addresses. There's also Angry IP Scanner for OS X.

Thanks, I'll give those a try.

I'm also trying to add the HP 7280 printer to it, but the drivers aren't installed by default into XP... and when I manually install the drivers, the printer setup tool still can't find them. These machines can print to every other printer in the building, except the two they need to.
